Terrence Dashon Howard, born on March 11, 1969, is an American actor. He gained recognition through his early roles in the films "Dead Presidents" and "Mr. Holland's Opus" in 1995. Howard made his breakthrough in mainstream cinema and television between 2004 and 2006 with a series of notable roles. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in "Hustle & Flow."

Howard has appeared in several prominent films, including "Winnie Mandela," "Ray," "Lackawanna Blues," "Crash," "Four Brothers," "Big Momma's House," "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," "Idlewild," "Biker Boyz," "August Rush," "The Brave One," and "Prisoners." He portrayed James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the first "Iron Man" film and achieved success as the lead character, Lucious Lyon, in the television series "Empire."

In addition to his acting career, Howard released his debut album, "Shine Through It," in September 2008.
